Earlier this month, the Team headed to the downtown Vancouver Marriott. Our mission; to astound the public with our astounding game. To spellbind and make swoon those who sample our system. To… well, you get the idea. In our arsenal were 50 paperback copies of The Triune Legacy as well as 20 exclusive hard cover editions of the Core Book and a number of copies of our Character Creation brochure. We also had us a Secret Weapon? The World itself, Aaron Golden, and The Lexi Fotia. The creator of The Triune Legacy and its 8Fold Soul System would be running a series of game demos, one long session per day. And demo we did.
In spite of VCON attendance being down this year, our booth had a constant crowd. Our raucous demo table in the game room was always full of people playing and crowding around, watching and hoping to get into the next game. After the first day, Aaron had to nearly double the number of characters in the game. Anyone who has ever been a GM for an RPG will know what a feat it is to be able to run a game for 14 people successfully, while keeping all players continually captivated and entertained. The 8Fold Soul System was so easy to learn and understand that players who returned after one session had picked it up and were able to help teach the newcomers!
The Triune Legacy team didn’t have great expectations for this convention; only great hopes. We’re an independent game studio, or three insane friends posing as one. Our aim was to get the word out. The demos did more than we could have hoped for to that end. When all was said and done, and we were packing up our booth, only then did we notice that all of our exclusive hard covers had flown off the shelf. This game as spread almost entirely through word of mouth. We have had no great marketing campaigns, and as of yet no in-store stocks at game stores. During VCON, we almost didn’t need to worry about advertising and word of mouth – The Triune Legacy sold itself.
I got to help Aaron while he ran his demos, and participate in the game… which for me defies description. We ran The Lexi Fotia, our first free downloadable episode with pre-made characters so that players who are new to the game and the 8Fold Soul System can jump right in. This let us skip any lengthy character creation. Below is a short retelling of the first demo, because it was epic. It was bloody. By the end of VCON, everyone died. And they loved it.
You can read the fictionalization, “The Ballad of Perry Steiner” on our blog.

Our exclusive hard cover editions will be worth a lot of money when our venture strikes it big. Why? Funny story. We misspelled the name of our own company on the spine of the book. Humility win!
